Granite & Natural Stone: Care & Maintenance Guide
In choosing granite or natural stone for your home project you will have many, many years of beauty and exceptional durability. The key to retaining the luxurious radiance of your new natural stone countertop is following the simple care and maintenance steps. (All materials require a certain amount of maintenance from laminate to solid surface to natural stone.)
Easy Care and Maintenance for Granite and Stone:
Use warm water and a small amount of mild, non-abrasive, non-chlorine soap. Dish soap works great.
Rinse with clear warm water to remove remaining soap.
Dry thoroughly with a clean, dry soft cloth.
To deep clean your granite use a dry, fine steel wool.
It is recommended to seal the stone once a year with a granite sealer which is as easy as wiping off your countertop. Corner Stone applies a 15-year seal on the granite at installation. Cleaners and disinfectants made specifically for granite & quartz-based stones are available at most home centers and hardware stores.
BACTERIA: Bacteria requires several things in order to thrive and grow: oxygen, water, sunlight, nutrients, and a substrate to form on. The materials in granite prevent bacterial growth. As a result, there is no habitable environment for bacteria to live and grow on a granite surface.
